[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Edges Higher Amid Geopolitical Deadlines and Defensive Rotation

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) was up 91.39 (0.1965%) points today, reaching 46,596.06, while Dow Futures (YM=F) was up 97.00 (0.2076%) points at 46,829.00. Markets are navigating a complex landscape dominated by a looming Tuesday deadline set by the Trump administration regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This geopolitical friction with Iran has kept investors on edge, though optimism regarding a potential 45-day ceasefire provided enough support to keep the blue-chip index in positive territory. Trading volumes remained thin as several global markets were closed for Easter Monday, leading to a cautious, defensive posture among domestic traders throughout the morning session.

Leading the gains, Apple (AAPL) was up 1.84% to $260.77, supported by resilient consumer demand for its AI-integrated ecosystem. UnitedHealth Group (UNH) was up 1.70% at $281.89, as healthcare stocks benefited from a rotation into stable, defensive assets. Boeing (BA) was up 1.30% to $210.86 following news of a significant international order, while JPMorgan Chase (JPM) was up 0.40% at $295.76 after CEO Jamie Dimon released his annual shareholder letter, which addressed both economic risks and the bank's resilience. American Express (AXP) also outperformed, as it was up 1.08% at $303.32.

Conversely, high-valuation tech and industrial names lagged. IBM (IBM) was down 0.96% to $245.65, and Salesforce (CRM) was down 0.93% at $185.29 as investors trimmed exposure to software ahead of Friday's CPI data. Nike (NKE) was down 0.79% to $43.84 due to supply chain concerns, while Nvidia (NVDA) was down 0.57% at $176.53. Honeywell (HON) was down 0.67% at $227.88, reflecting broader industrial caution amid fluctuating energy costs and a cooling manufacturing sector.
