[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Slumps as Enterprise Tech and Retail Giants Face Headwinds

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) was down 173.37 (-0.33%) points today, as the index struggled to maintain momentum amidst a divergence in sector performance. While Dow Futures (YM=F) was down 177.00 (-0.34%) points today, the primary narrative driving the market was a combination of stagnant enterprise spending and weakness in the housing sector. Investors reacted to cautious forward-looking statements from major software and retail firms, overshadowing a significant rally in industrial and semiconductor components. This cautious sentiment was further amplified by rising Treasury yields, which pressured high-valuation growth stocks throughout the session.

Leading the gainers, 3M (MMM) surged 3.70% to $148.62, buoyed by optimistic restructuring updates. The artificial intelligence trade remained resilient as Nvidia (NVDA) rose 1.77% to $225.01, while defensive healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) was up 1.61% to $227.63. Other notable performers providing support to the index included Cisco Systems (CSCO), which was up 1.33% to $100.48, and UnitedHealth Group (UNH), which rose 1.00% to $399.64.

Conversely, IBM (IBM) was the session's biggest loser, falling 2.42% to $213.40 following a downgrade related to slowing cloud consultancy demand. Consumer-facing and enterprise stocks also faced significant pressure; Home Depot (HD) was down 2.14% to $303.85, and Salesforce (CRM) dropped 1.64% to $168.45. Financial and industrial heavyweights added to the decline, with Sherwin-Williams (SHW) down 1.36% and American Express (AXP) falling 1.27% to $310.29, as market participants adjusted for a higher-for-longer interest rate environment.
