[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Slips as Inflation Data Weights on Enterprise Tech

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) was down 92.78 (-0.17%) points today, trading at 53,747.21, while Dow Futures (YM=F) was down 134.00 (-0.24%) points. The primary market narrative is currently driven by a strategic pivot away from enterprise technology and consumer discretionary stocks as investors digest the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) data, which suggested a slight uptick in wholesale costs. This economic data has sparked renewed debate over the Federal Reserve's interest rate path, leading to a fragmented trading session as traders weigh persistent inflation risks against corporate earnings.

Leading the gainers today is 3M (MMM), which was up 3.70% to $148.62 following reports of successful cost-cutting measures and a streamlined manufacturing outlook. Semiconductor powerhouse Nvidia (NVDA) also saw significant momentum, as the stock was up 1.77% to $225.01 amid continued demand for AI infrastructure. Defensive names provided further stability, with Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) up 1.61% to $227.63 and UnitedHealth Group (UNH) up 1.00% to $399.64. Cisco Systems (CSCO) also contributed to the upside, as it was up 1.33% to $100.48.

Conversely, the index faced pressure from IBM (IBM), which was down 2.42% to $213.40 after analysts flagged slowing growth in its cloud consulting division. Home Depot (HD) was down 2.14% to $303.85, reflecting broader anxieties about high borrowing costs affecting the housing market. Salesforce (CRM) was down 1.64% to $168.45, while Sherwin-Williams (SHW) was down 1.36% to $307.61. Financial heavyweights also struggled, with American Express (AXP) down 1.27% to $310.29 and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) down 1.12% to $301.51.
