[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Navigates Volatility Amid Manufacturing Data and Tech Shifts

The Dow Jones Futures (YM=F) was down 79.00 (-0.15%) points today, Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, as investors grappled with fresh ISM Manufacturing PMI data and a shifting landscape in the technology sector. The primary narrative driving the market is a "wait-and-see" approach regarding Federal Reserve monetary policy following signs of cooling industrial activity, which has led to a rotation out of high-valuation software names and into industrial value plays.

Leading the gainers today is 3M Company (MMM), which was up 3.70% to $148.62 following a favorable legal settlement update that bolstered investor confidence. In the semiconductor space, Nvidia (NVDA) continued its upward trajectory, rising 1.77% to $225.01, while healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) climbed 1.61% to $227.63. Other notable performers include Cisco Systems (CSCO), which was up 1.33%, and UnitedHealth Group (UNH), gaining 1.00% as defensive sectors saw renewed interest.

Conversely, the market faced significant pressure from the technology and retail sectors. IBM (IBM) was the biggest laggard, falling 2.42% to $213.40 amid concerns over enterprise spending. Home Depot (HD) was down 2.14% to $303.85 as mortgage rate volatility impacted home improvement outlooks. Additionally, Salesforce (CRM) dropped 1.64%, and Microsoft (MSFT) was down 0.95% to $403.87, weighing heavily on the price-weighted index. Financials also struggled, with American Express (AXP) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) down 1.27% and 1.12% respectively.
