[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Slumps as Economic Uncertainty Weighs on Blue-Chip Stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) was down 161.61 (-0.31%) points today, closing at 51,349.98, as investors grappled with a shift in market sentiment driven by cautious economic data and a cooling of recent tech-led momentum. While the broader market faced headwinds, Dow Futures (YM=F) also signaled pressure, falling 202.00 (-0.39%) points. The primary narrative for the session centered on a rotation out of high-growth software and retail sectors following concerns over long-term interest rate stability and consumer spending durability heading into the final quarter of the year.

Leading the gainers, 3M (MMM) surged 3.70% to $148.62, buoyed by positive sentiment surrounding its ongoing restructuring efforts. Artificial intelligence bellwether Nvidia (NVDA) continued its resilient streak, climbing 1.77% to $225.00, while defensive healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) added 1.61% to finish at $227.63. Other notable performers included Cisco Systems (CSCO), which rose 1.33%, and UnitedHealth Group (UNH), up 1.00%.

Conversely, the index was dragged down by significant losses in the technology and consumer discretionary sectors. IBM (IBM) was the biggest laggard, falling 2.42% to $213.40, followed closely by Home Depot (HD), which shed 2.14% to close at $303.84. Enterprise software firm Salesforce (CRM) dropped 1.64%, while financial heavyweights American Express (AXP) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) saw declines of 1.27% and 1.12% respectively, reflecting a broader retreat from cyclical stocks during the Thursday session.
