[DowJonesToday]Dow Jones Slips as Market Weighs Economic Uncertainty

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) was down 131.59 (-0.26%) points today, closing at 51,349.92, as investors grappled with a shift in market sentiment driven by cautious economic data and a cooling of recent tech-led rallies. While the broader market has remained resilient, today’s session was characterized by a rotation out of heavy-weight industrial and consumer discretionary names. Dow Futures (YM=F) mirrored this downward trend, finishing lower by 81.00 (-0.16%) points at 51,756.00. The primary narrative focused on a re-evaluation of long-term interest rate paths following latest inflation indicators, which pressured dividend-sensitive stocks and high-valuation tech giants.

Leading the gainers, 3M (MMM) surged 3.70% to $148.62 following a positive legal settlement update that boosted investor confidence. Semiconductor leader Nvidia (NVDA) also outperformed the index, rising 1.77% to $225.01, while healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) climbed 1.61% to $227.63. Other notable performers included Cisco Systems (CSCO), which gained 1.33%, and UnitedHealth Group (UNH), which rose 1.00% as defensive sectors saw increased inflows.

Conversely, the index was dragged down by significant losses in the technology and retail sectors. IBM (IBM) was the biggest laggard, falling 2.42% to $213.40 after a cautious analyst report on enterprise spending. Home Depot (HD) dropped 2.14% to $303.85 amid concerns over slowing housing starts, while Salesforce (CRM) declined 1.64% to $168.45. Financial heavyweights also faced headwinds, with American Express (AXP) losing 1.27% and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) sliding 1.12% by the closing bell.
