The company experienced strong performance in its engines and heavy equipment segment. Caterpillar Inc. almost doubled its profit to $1.22 per share from 64 cents per share it had earned a year ago.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Caterpillar Inc. reported its quarterly profit at $792 million.<\/li>\n<li>Caterpillar Inc. had earned $404 million during the corresponding quarter of the last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Caterpillar Inc. also declared 53 percent increase in its sales. The sales figure for the quarter stood at $11.13 billion. The street expectations were pegged at $1.09 in earnings per share. The revenue was estimated to be at $10.5 billion. Caterpillar Inc. has also raised its forecast for the full year. The company now expects to earn between $3.80 and $4.00 per share in earnings for the entire year.<\/p>\n<p>Caterpillar Inc. said, \u201c2010 is shaping up to be one of the most significant year-over-year increases in sales and revenues in our history.\u201d The analysts are expecting the company to earn $3.76 per share in the year 2010.
