However, all three major indexes ended sharply lower for the week.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-12799\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the week ended September 23, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended 6.41% lower, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/sp500\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> ended 6.54% lower, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> ended 5.3% lower. On Friday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended 0.35% higher at 10,771.48, the S&amp;P 500 ended 0.61% higher at 1,136.43, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> ended 1.12% higher at 2,483.23.<\/p>\n<p><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>All sectors in the S&amp;P 500 except Basic Materials ended the day in green on Friday. Consumer Cyclical and Transportation stocks led the gains in the S&amp;P 500 on Friday, ending 1.91% and 1.45% higher, respectively. Financials also rose sharply on Friday, ending the day 1.04% higher. Industrials ended the day 0.90% higher. Basic Materials stocks fell 0.57%, after dropping more than 5% on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major gainers in trading on Friday were Harleysville Group Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=hgic\">NASDAQ: HGIC<\/a>), which ended the day 23.65% higher at $31.32, American Medical Alert Corp. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=amac\">NASDAQ: AMAC<\/a>), which ended the day 47.63% higher at $8.40, DISH Network Corp. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=dish\">NASDAQ: DISH<\/a>), which ended the day 5.35% higher at $26.76, PNM Resources Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=pnm\">NYSE: PNM<\/a>), which ended the day 16.85% higher at $16.02, and Nike Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=nke\">NYSE: NKE<\/a>), which ended the day 5.30% higher at $88.64.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major losers in trading on Friday were Hewlett-Packard Company (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\">NYSE<\/a>: HPQ), which ended the day 2.11% lower at $22.32, and Range Resources Corp. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\">NYSE<\/a>: RRC), which ended the day 11.45% lower at $58.53.<\/p>\n<p>European markets fluctuated between gains and losses on Friday before finishing higher. The FTSE 100 Index in London ended the ay 0.50% higher at 5,066.81, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris ended the day 1.02% higher at 2,810.11.
