Despite today\u2019s gains, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">gold<\/a> is still headed for a fourth straight weekly loss.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-23331\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">spot gold<\/a> was trading 0.74% higher at $1,657.09 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>Nic Brown, Head of Commodity Research at Natixis, told Reuters that the strength of the U.S. economy is a negative for <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> from the perspective of the U.S. dollar as well as from the perspective of the portfolio flows for U.S. investors.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said that he has been negative on gold for a little while, and thinks that it has passed its peak. He added that over the medium to long-term horizon he expects to see prices \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 quite a bit lower.<\/p>\n<p>Brown believes that quantitative easing and abnormally low U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/bonds\/today.aspx\">interest rates<\/a> have been a huge support for <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">gold prices<\/a> and it is no surprise that the falling <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">gold price<\/a> recently has been accompanied by quite a significant rise in U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/bonds\/today.aspx\">interest rates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, ETP holdings touched a record of nearly 70.9 million ounces; however, the last couple of days of outflows have erased all of the build-up that had taken place this month.<\/p>\n<p>According to UBS, Thursday\u2019s decline in ETP holdings was the largest outflow since beginning of the year which pushed this month\u2019s net position into negative territory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> are also rebounding in early trading today.
