However, loses were modest as weak economic data heralds possible monetary easing. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">silver prices<\/a> also edged lower.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-24699\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s growth engine China experienced a fifth quarter of slowing growth as the GDP for first three months of 2012 turned out lower than expected. The gross domestic product reading showed a growth of 8.1%. The\u00a0dollar index, which measures greenback performance against the basket of six major traded currencies, climbed up 0.2 percent against major commodity currencies that were disappointed at the China\u2019s sluggish GDP data, putting some pressure on dollar-priced <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/commodities\/today.aspx\">commodities<\/a> including <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">gold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>According to Ronald Leung, a dealer at Lee Chong <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold<\/a> Dealers in Hong Kong, \u201cThe slowdown in China&#8217;s economy dampened <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/commodities\/today.aspx\">commodities<\/a> as well as commodity currencies such as the Australian dollar\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a>\u00a0slid 0.3 percent to $1,675.50, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Spot gold<\/a>\u00a0dropped to an intra-day low of $1,671.44 after the data release, but recovered some losses to $1,674.19 by 0355 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>Reuter\u2019s Market analyst Wang Tao\u2019s technical analysis suggests that <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">spot gold<\/a> might face resistance at $1,680 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Future of gold not glittery<\/p>\n<p>According to Dominic Schnider, head of commodity research at UBS Wealth Management in Singapore, although China\u2019s lower-than-expected GDP data could lead to expectation of more quantitative easing from Beijing, gold demand growth, on the contrary may fall short of the pace shown the past couple of years.
