(<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=MSFT\">NASDAQ: MSFT<\/a>) announced its fiscal third quarterly earnings that fell short of the market expectations. However, shares were trading higher, post trading-hours.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-25337\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Company\u2019s net income stood at $5.1 billion, or 60 cents per share, down from $5.2 billion, or 61 cents, for the same period, last year- a period when it posted a one-time tax gain.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, revenue soared to $17.4 billion, a 6-percent<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>rise from $16.43 billion a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Post earnings\u2019 announcement, company\u2019s share gained 2%.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s 6% percent increase in sales was driven by strong demand for its server software products and Office application.<\/p>\n<p>According to tech research firm Gartner, globally, sales of personal computers rose a modest 1.9 percent in the quarter. The company\u2019s growth can be considered as better than expected seeing that market faced hard-drive shortages from Thailand even as Apple\u2019s iPad gave strong competition. The U.S. consumer market, reeling under spending cuts, stays weak for the company though.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting over Microsoft\u2019s results, Brendan Barnicle, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities, said to CNBC, &#8220;It looks good. Particularly good was the Windows business, which grew about 4 percent, more than PC industry growth;\u201d In the last few quarters, Windows has been growing less than PCs overall,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s report comes after when most tech stocks fell over the previous day.
