The Company reported a 21% increase in its profits; despite a loss from the science fiction film \u00a0\u201cJohn Carter\u201d-which bombed, beating Street\u2019s estimates.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-26760\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Company, stronger revenues from its theme park business and rising revenues from cable networks which includes sports powerhouse ESPN, helped boost its revenues for the quarter.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>The Company posted fiscal second quarter earnings of $1.1 billion and a 6 percent increase in revenue to $9.629 billion.<\/p>\n<p>After adjusting onetime expenses, earnings per share rose 18 percent to 58 cents. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting earnings of 55 cents a share.<\/p>\n<p>The quarterly results did not take into account strong results from Disney\u2019s blockbuster superhero movie &#8216;The Avengers,&#8217; which set an industry record on May 6, grossing $207.4 million in ticket sales in its first weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Total worldwide sales for the movie stood at $702 million.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the film studio recorded an $84 million loss in operating income, following drubbing of \u2018John Carter,&#8217; which cost $250 million to produce and millions of dollars for marketing activities.<\/p>\n<p>Lately, Disney earnings have received a strong boost from its media unit, which includes the sports channel ESPN and ABC.<\/p>\n<p>Operating earnings in cable broadcast unit increased 13 percent to $1.7 billion in the latest quarter. Earnings at the theme park unit soared 53 percent to $222 million.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting over results, \u00a0Janney Montgomery Scott, analyst Tony Wible, said, \u00a0\u201cYou\u2019ve got a parks recovery that\u2019s underway, and you have a cable network business that\u2019s best in class.
