(<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=JWN\">NYSE: JWN<\/a>) fiscal first quarter profit climbed up 2.8%, thanks to a growth in revenues; however, margins narrowed for the period.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-26839\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Company shares lost 5.3% to $50.70 in afterhours trading.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>Company\u2019s earnings have improved since last two years as demand for its designer merchandise rose after a dismal time during the economic slowdown in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>A very fragile demand for its luxurious brands at the height of economic recession prompted the Company to look into low- priced products.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, Nordstrom expanded its off-price footprint by opening \u2018Rack clearance\u2019 stores, a business that has continued to perform well even during the better economic times. Nevertheless, the demand for Nordstrom\u2019s luxury products have also picked up in recent quarters.<\/p>\n<p>For the quarter ending April 28, Nordstrom posted a profit of $149 million, or 70 cents a share, up from $145 million, or 65 cents a share, in the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of 75 cents a share.<\/p>\n<p>Company\u2019s total revenue, which includes credit-card revenue, soared 13% to $2.63 billion, even as gross margin shrunk to 39.7%, down from last year\u2019s 40.4%.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month the company also reported that its retail sales leaped 14% to $2.54 billion as same-store sales grew 8.5%.
