Stocks fluctuated between gains and losses on Friday as investors digested news of JP Morgan\u2019s (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\">NYSE<\/a>: JPM) $2 billion trading loss.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-26951\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 0.27% lower at 12,820.60, the S&amp;P 500 ended the day 0.34% lower at 1,353.39, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> ended the day 0.01% higher at 2,933.82.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Dow Jones Today\">Dow Jones<\/a> logged in its worst weekly performance of 2012, falling 1.67%. The S&amp;P 500 fell 1.15% for the week, while <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> fell 0.76% for the week.<\/p>\n<p>Financials were the worst performers in the S&amp;P 500. The sector was dragged lower by JP Morgan, which fell 9.28%. Financials ended the day 0.92% lower. Energy stocks also fell sharply, ending the day 0.75% lower. Basic Materials stocks ended the day 0.72% lower.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major gainers and losers in trading on Friday were NVIDIA Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=NVDA\">NASDAQ: NVDA<\/a>), which ended the day 6.36% higher at $13.21, Chesapeake Energy Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=CHK\">NYSE: CHK<\/a>), which ended the day 13.80% lower at $14.81, Monster Worldwide Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=MWW\">NYSE: MWW<\/a>), which ended the day 19.01% higher at $9.33, and Francesca\u2019s Holdings Corp.(NASDAQ: FRAN), which ended the day 13.16% lower at $24.02.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, the preliminary reading on Thomson Reuters\/University of Michigan\u2019s consumer sentiment index came in well above forecast. Meanwhile, a report from the Labor Department showed that producer prices fell in the month of April as energy costs declined.<\/p>\n<p>European markets also ended on a mixed note on Friday, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.57% higher, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.01% lower.
