(<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SPLK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: SPLK<\/a>), a provider of software platform, plunged on Friday after the company reported that its first-quarter loss widened sharply as it recorded a substantial cost from changing the fair value of warrants.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-28336\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SPLK reported first-quarter revenue of $37.2 million, representing an increase of 80% over the same period in the previous year. Excluding one-time items, the company\u2019s loss for the quarter was $0.04 per share.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting the company to report a loss of $0.06 per share and revenue of $34 million.<\/p>\n<p>Operating expenses for the quarter rose 92%. Input costs, meanwhile, more than doubled.<\/p>\n<p>For the full year, Splunk expects revenue to come in between $174 million and $177 million. This compares with Street estimates of $172 million. Revenue for the second quarter is expected to come in between $38 million and $40 million, compared with Street estimates of $38 million.<\/p>\n<p>Godfrey Sullivan, CEO of Splunk, said that even in tight times, SPLK can compete effectively for budget dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Splunk shares fell 16.34% to finish at $27.24 on Friday.
