Gold prices also came under pressure from a stronger dollar. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">silver prices<\/a> also edged lower in trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-30314\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gold for delivery in August on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange fell $30.50 to settle at $1,578.90 an ounce. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The weaker than expected jobs data has raised prospects of further quantitative easing from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>. Although further monetary easing would be a positive for gold, the precious metal fell on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Gold prices slipped as the U.S. dollar strengthened against the euro. The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six currencies, rose to 83.377 on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In other precious metals, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">silver<\/a> also fell. At last check, silver futures for September delivery were down $0.75 to $26.92 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Silver ETFs also dropped on Friday. At last check, the iShares Silver Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SLV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: SLV<\/a>) was down 2.31% to $26.26, and the ProShares Ultra Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AGQ<\/a>) was down 4.70% to $36.92.<\/p>\n<p>The ProShares UltraShort Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"NYSE Today\">NYSE<\/a>: ZSL) rose more than 4% on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Platinum and palladium also dropped in trading on Friday.
