In the current year, gold has acted more like a commodity tracking riskier assets like equities, crude oil prices rather than acting as safe haven asset.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the demand for physical gold in Asia contracted significantly lately. While gold\u2019s consumption in China and Hong Kong has fallen due to economic slowdown, India, world\u2019s biggest gold importer is grappling with weaker Indian rupee, making imports expensive.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, Spot gold\u00a0inched down 0.3 percent to $1,571.86 an ounce by 0311 GMT and U.S. gold futures\u00a0contract for August delivery edged down0.85% to $1,562.30<\/p>\n<p>According to Wang Tao, a market analyst at Reuters, technical analysis suggests that spot gold is likely to be range-bound between $1,564 and $1,582.80.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting over possible course of gold prices in short-term, ANZ in its research note wrote, \u201cWe are maintaining our near-term downside bias for gold and suggest shorting the market at $1,580, targeting $1,554, with a stop at $1,600, given waning risk appetite and implications for a stronger U.S. dollar, which are likely to keep downward pressure on gold after the recent failure to maintain a rally above $1,600.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">silver<\/a> futures slid 1.44%, at $26.635 an ounce, while spot silver also dropped 0.3%, at $26.98, at last check.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">pre-market trading<\/a>, the iShares Silver Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SLV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: SLV<\/a>) fell 1.45%, the ProShares Ultra Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AGQ<\/a>) is down 2.85%, and the ProShares UltraShort Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"NYSE Today\">NYSE<\/a>: ZSL) is up 3.44%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"nrelate_popular_2\" class=\"nrelate nrelate_popular nrelate_default nr_1col nr_text\"><\/div>\n<p>\t<!--[if IE 6]>\n\t\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">jQuery('.nrelate_default').removeClass('nrelate_default');<\/script>\n\t<![endif]--><\/p>\n<p>\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n\t\/* <![CDATA[ *\/\n\t\tnRelate.domain = \"thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news\";\n\t\tvar entity_decoded_nr_mp_url = jQuery('<span\/>').html(\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120713233146\/http:\/\/api.nrelate.com\/mpw_wp\/0.51.2\/?tag=nrelate_popular&domain=thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news&url=http%3A%2F%2Fthestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news%2Fgold-prices-down-silver-prices-also-slip%2F30569&nr_div_number=2&maxageposts=7200&increment=1\").text();\n\t\tnRelate.getNrelatePosts(entity_decoded_nr_mp_url);\n\t\/* ]]&gt;
