The U.S. GDS expanded 1.5% in the second quarter, the slowest pace since the third quarter of 2011.<\/p>\n<p><!--Ad Injection mfunc mode ad code--><!--mfunc adshow_display_ad_file_v2(array('ad_random_1.txt'), array(100), array('align' => 'float right', 'clear' => '', 'margin_top' => '', 'margin_bottom' => '', 'padding_top' => '', 'padding_bottom' => ''), array(), array()) --><\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin-left:5px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - in News 300 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"5684630733\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--\/mfunc--><\/p>\n<p>Gold also gained as the U.S. dollar weakened against the euro after French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that they are determined to do all they can to protect the euro zone.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold rose 0.3% to $1,620.36 on Friday. Meanwhile, gold futures for delivery in August on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange settled slightly higher at $1,618 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Andrey Kryuchenkov of VTB Capital said in a research note that he is still skeptical over the sustainability of such a fragile rebound and once again gold volumes remain quite subdued and physical players will need to step in and support a sustained rally, which is also unlikely at these prices, not least because of a demand lull in India at the moment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices also rose on Friday. At last check, spot silver was trading 0.5% higher at $27.64 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>In late trading on Friday, the iShares Silver Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SLV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: SLV<\/a>) was trading 0.64% higher, the ProShares Ultra Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AGQ<\/a>) was trading 1.21% higher, and the ProShares UltraShort Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nyse\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"NYSE Today\">NYSE<\/a>: ZSL) was trading 1.21% lower.<\/p>\n<p>In other precious metals, platinum and palladium also rose on Friday.
