{"id":33039,"date":"2012-08-24T15:32:00","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T15:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-flat-silver-prices-edge-higher-2\/33038\/"},"modified":"2012-08-24T15:32:00","modified_gmt":"2012-08-24T15:32:00","slug":"gold-prices-flat-silver-prices-edge-higher-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-flat-silver-prices-edge-higher-2\/33039\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Flat; Silver Prices Edge Higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> ended nearly flat in trading on Friday as investors took a breather after the recent rally in the precious metal. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a>, meanwhile, edged higher on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-33039\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gold prices rose sharply this week after the minutes of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u2019s most recent monetary policy meeting suggested that the central bank is likely to implement further easing measures.<\/p>\n<p>Hopes of further easing lifted the precious metal to a 4-1\/2-month high this week.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Reuters, Afshin Nabavi, Head of Trading at MKS Finance, said that gold has finally moved and looks like it wants to test the $1,700 level sooner than later, but there are no physical buyers at the moment. Nabavi said that if there is no physical interest in the market, gold\u2019s move upward will be short-lived.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold prices were down 0.04% to $1,669.40 an ounce in late trading on Friday. Gold futures for delivery in December on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, meanwhile, settled $0.40 lower at $1,672.80 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Platinum prices edged lower on Friday. At last check, spot platinum was down 0.1% to $1,536.20 an ounce. Platinum prices rose to a near four-month high on Thursday amid concerns over supply due to violence at a South African mine. Palladium also slipped on Friday, settling at $652.45 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices edged higher.
