{"id":34132,"date":"2012-09-13T16:43:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T16:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/stocks-rally-as-fed-launches-qe3\/34132\/"},"modified":"2012-09-13T16:43:00","modified_gmt":"2012-09-13T16:43:00","slug":"stocks-rally-as-fed-launches-qe3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/stocks-rally-as-fed-launches-qe3\/34132\/","title":{"rendered":"Stocks Rally as Fed Launches QE3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>Stocks surged in trading today, finishing at multi-year highs, as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> announced a new bond buying program to spur economic growth.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-34132\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 1.55% higher at 13,539.86, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/sp500\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> ended the day 1.63% higher at 1,459.99, and the Nasdaq ended the day 1.33% higher at 3,155.83.<\/p>\n<p>Stocks got off to a sluggish start earlier today as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of Fed\u2019s announcement. Investors were hoping that the Fed will announce further easing measures to support the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed did not disappoint market participants as it announced a new round of bond buying program. The Fed said that it would buy $40 billion of mortgage-backed debt each month until there is a significant improvement in the labor market. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said that the central bank is looking for ongoing, sustained improvement in the labor market.<\/p>\n<p>All sectors in the S&amp;P 500 finished the day in green following Fed\u2019s announcement. Basic Materials and Energy sectors led the gains in the S&amp;P 500 today, ending the day 2.37% and 2.04% higher, respectively. Financials also surged, ending the day 1.89% higher. Industrials ended the day 1.13% higher, while Conglomerates ended the day 1.19% higher.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major gainers in trading today were Apple Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AAPL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ:AAPL<\/a>), which ended the day 1.97% higher at $682.98, Equinix Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=EQIX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: EQIX<\/a>), which ended the day 7.48% higher at $200.50, Bank of America Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=BAC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: BAC<\/a>), which ended the day 4.79% higher at $9.40, Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=ANR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: ANR<\/a>), which ended the day 12.13% higher at $8.23, and Freeport-McMoRan Copper &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=FCX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: FCX<\/a>), which ended the day 4.21% higher at $41.79.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier European markets ended mostly lower, with the EURO STOXX 50 Index falling 0.84%.
