{"id":38818,"date":"2012-12-13T03:53:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-13T03:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/aetna-plans-to-be-part-of-nearly-15-healthcare-exchanges-aet\/38818\/"},"modified":"2012-12-13T03:53:00","modified_gmt":"2012-12-13T03:53:00","slug":"aetna-plans-to-be-part-of-nearly-15-healthcare-exchanges-aet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/aetna-plans-to-be-part-of-nearly-15-healthcare-exchanges-aet\/38818\/","title":{"rendered":"Aetna Plans to be Part of Nearly 15 Healthcare Exchanges (AET)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>Aiming to benefit from changing regulatory landscape, United States\u2019 third largest health insurer, Aetna Inc (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AET\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AET<\/a>) announced on Wednesday that by 2014 it intends to be part of nearly\u00a0 15 healthcare exchanges.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-38818\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Addressing to analysts and investors, Aetna\u2019s executives said increase in the numbers of customers from new market places will contribute towards its growth.<\/p>\n<p>With the introduction of U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, about 30 million more people are expected to join the insured; and it is believed that millions of those will be seeking health insurances through these exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>All states are expected to decide until December 14 whether they will be part of state-based, federal or partnership based exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-profit health policy group, so far, around 18 states have decided to create their own state-based exchanges and other 18 states\u00a0 are expected to join federal based exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aetna, the shift towards exchanges is essentially changing the way of carrying business in managed healthcare sector.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to analysts, Aetna\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Mark Bertolini said, \u201cMore and more consumers are going to be buying their healthcare, even if the employer-sponsored system survives,&#8221;. &#8220;A lot of things that we do today are no longer necessary to the end buyer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the future, Aetna believes that its profits will be boosted due to costs controls, and expansion in Federal government programs, such as Medicare meant for the elderly people and Medicaid intended for low income earners.
