{"id":40660,"date":"2013-01-25T12:25:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-25T12:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/halliburtons-quarterly-earnings-beats-streets-forecast-shares-gain-hal\/40660\/"},"modified":"2013-01-25T12:25:00","modified_gmt":"2013-01-25T12:25:00","slug":"halliburtons-quarterly-earnings-beats-streets-forecast-shares-gain-hal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/halliburtons-quarterly-earnings-beats-streets-forecast-shares-gain-hal\/40660\/","title":{"rendered":"Halliburton\u2019s Quarterly Earnings Beats Street\u2019s Forecast, Shares Gain (HAL)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=HAL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: HAL<\/a>) reported 35% drop in fiscal fourth-quarter \u00a0earnings; however, shares climbed nearly 4% in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/pre-market\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Premarket Movers\">premarket<\/a> trade as quarterly results beat Street\u2019s expectations, thanks to higher margins fetched from international markets which offset weakness in North America.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-40660\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the backdrop of natural gas glut in the U.S and unusually warm winter, natural gas prices remained depressed in 2012 which in turn hit margins, putting lid on drilling activities.<\/p>\n<p>Halliburton\u2019s operating income North American region plunged 58% in the latest quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The weakness in natural gas industry is likely to continue this year as well. \u00a0Many oil and gas companies, according to Reuters, are not inclined to invest anything more than what they spent last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2013, we anticipate the North America rig count will improve from fourth quarter levels but will be down slightly compared to 2012,\u201d \u00a0said \u00a0David Lesar, Halliburton\u2019s Chief Eceutive, \u00a0in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>However, robust drilling activities in the MENA region (Middle East and Africa), Asia along with Europe, helped Halliburton to make for the rather lull period in North America.<\/p>\n<p>For the latest quarter, Halliburton\u2019s net income from continuing operations came at $589 million, or 63 cents a share, beating analysts\u2019 consensus estimate for earnings of 60 cents a share, according to data compiled by Thomson Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue for the period rose 3 percent to $7.3 billion, bettering Wall Street estimates of $7.06 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In the completion and production division, revenue inched up 0.2%, while operating income contracted 45%.<\/p>\n<p>In the drilling and evaluation division, revenue climbed 7.9% and operating income rose 0.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, Halliburton\u2019s rival Schlumberger Ltd.
