{"id":40704,"date":"2013-01-27T13:55:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-27T13:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/big-furloughs-are-on-the-way-if-sequestration-comes-into-effect\/40702\/"},"modified":"2013-01-27T13:55:00","modified_gmt":"2013-01-27T13:55:00","slug":"big-furloughs-are-on-the-way-if-sequestration-comes-into-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/big-furloughs-are-on-the-way-if-sequestration-comes-into-effect\/40704\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Furloughs Are On the Way, If Sequestration Comes into Effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>A top pentagon official fears that in case congressional leaders do not come up with ways to avert mandatory budget cuts before the March 1 deadline, hundreds of thousands of civilian employees associated with the Pentagon will face furlough or their paychecks risks becoming trimmer by April.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-40704\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While addressing a small group of reporters on Friday, Deputy Defense Secretary, Ashton Carter, said that those employees facing furloughs could miss one working data each week for the rest of the budget year, which ends September.<\/p>\n<p>The series of dreaded automatic spending cuts, also referred to as sequestration, would force the U.S. Defense Department (DOD) to lower its budget in all defense programs by 9 percent besides it would put a cap on federal government\u2019s entitlement programs\u2014lest lawmakers in Washington fail to reach a accord on how to reduce nation\u2019s fiscal deficit and ballooning debt requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is painful to us,\u201d said Carter.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon at present has around 800,000 civilian employees; and thus far they have not been officially notified on possible furloughs. According to Carter, furloughs are expected to save the DOD $5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Benjamin L. Cardin, (Sen.
