{"id":42994,"date":"2013-03-27T08:05:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-27T08:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-extend-losses-silver-prices-plunge-more-than-1-50\/42988\/"},"modified":"2013-03-27T08:05:00","modified_gmt":"2013-03-27T08:05:00","slug":"gold-prices-extend-losses-silver-prices-plunge-more-than-1-50","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-extend-losses-silver-prices-plunge-more-than-1-50\/42994\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Extend Losses, Silver Prices Plunge More Than 1.50%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> continued extending losses on Wednesday as investors remained reluctant to take safe haven bets amid significantly improving U.S. economic indicators even as concerns over deterioration of the debt crisis in the euro zone eased. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also fell sharply in early trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-42994\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for April delivery fell 0.22% to $1,592.20 an ounce while spot gold edged down 0.45% to $1,591.40 an ounce. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures plunged 1.62% to $28.215 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Tuesday the Commerce Department\u2019s durable goods orders data and S&amp;P Case\/Shiller\u2019s home price index underpinned the fact that the U.S. economy was picking up the momentum.<\/p>\n<p>In the backdrop, market participants are seeking high yielding assets such as equities, drifting away from gold.<\/p>\n<p>Gold, which is generally considered as a safe haven asset, tends to be under pressure when political and economic outlook looks stable.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, lack of inflationary pressure is also weighing on gold\u2019s inflation hedge appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s tough to keep investors in gold, and even tougher to motivate them to buy gold,\u201d said Dominic Schnider, an analyst at UBS Wealth Management in Singapore, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>However, Schnider is positive that gold prices will rebound in the second half of year.
