{"id":43157,"date":"2013-04-04T09:01:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T09:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-yen-and-euro-fall-sharply-against-dollar\/43153\/"},"modified":"2013-04-04T09:01:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T09:01:00","slug":"forex-market-update-yen-and-euro-fall-sharply-against-dollar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-yen-and-euro-fall-sharply-against-dollar\/43157\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Yen and Euro Fall Sharply against Dollar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The yen fell sharply against all major traded currencies on Thursday after the Bank of Japan (BOJ), in line with expectations, announced series of unprecedented monetary easing measures, in order to stimulate stagnating economy and reach its new inflation target of 2% in next two years.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-43157\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Concluding its two-day policy rate meeting on Thursday the BOJ, announced following measures:\u00a0 Kick-starting a new phase of monetary easing both in terms of quantity and quality, doubling the monetary base and the amounts outstanding of Japanese government bonds (JGBs) as well as exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in two years and more than double the average remaining maturity of JGB purchases, according to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement of extremely dovish policy rate statement, the yen tumbled 2.5 percent against the USD in Asian trading hours to around yen 95.40 &#8211; its biggest daily plunge against the greenback since October 2011 \u2013 and slumped by 2.1 percent against the euro to around yen 122.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Nikkei 225 Index jumped 2.2% even as yields on Japanese bond yields fell to its record levels.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the euro slumped 0.74% to trade at 1.2754 by 8:45 EST, following the release of yet another dismal economic data from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/currency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currency<\/a> bloc.<\/p>\n<p>While private sector activities in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/euro-zone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">euro zone<\/a> contracted in March to 46.4 from 47.9 in February, the currency bloc\u2019s composite PMI fell to 46.5 in March from 47.9 in February, according to Markit.<\/p>\n<p>However, the biggest causes for concern were Germany\u2019s Composite PMI, which fell to 3-month low and French composite PMI, which\u00a0 was weakest in last 48 months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"nrelate_popular_2\" class=\"nrelate nrelate_popular nrelate_default nr_1col nr_text\"><\/div>\n<p>\t<!--[if IE 6]>\n\t\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">jQuery('.nrelate_default').removeClass('nrelate_default');<\/script>\n\t<![endif]--><\/p>\n<p>\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n\t\/* <![CDATA[ *\/\n\t\tnRelate.domain = \"www2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news\";\n\t\tvar entity_decoded_nr_mp_url = jQuery('<span\/>').html(\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130406004556\/http:\/\/api.nrelate.com\/mpw_wp\/0.51.4\/?tag=nrelate_popular&domain=www2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news%2Fforex-market-update-yen-and-euro-fall-sharply-against-dollar%2F43157&nr_div_number=2&maxageposts=7200&increment=1\").text();\n\t\tnRelate.getNrelatePosts(entity_decoded_nr_mp_url);\n\t\/* ]]&gt;
