{"id":43166,"date":"2013-04-04T15:03:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T15:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-also-gain\/43164\/"},"modified":"2013-04-04T15:03:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T15:03:00","slug":"gold-prices-up-silver-prices-also-gain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-also-gain\/43166\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Up; Silver Prices also Gain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures\u00a0 overcame initial weakness to bounce back from its 10-month low level, hit during the Asian trading hours on Thursday after the European Central Bank (ECB) in its policy rate statement hinted at easing of benchmark interest rate in the near future in case the euro zone\u2019s economy fail to show signs of rebound. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged higher on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-43166\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, U.S. gold futures for June delivery 0.14% to $1,555.70 an ounce. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures inched up 0.29% to $26.88 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Although ECB\u2019s President Mario Draghi, as expected, stopped short of altering existing monetary policy, recent wave of unexpectedly weak economic data releases from the currency bloc made him to argue in favor of more monetary easing.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier the Bank of Japan also announced series of extremely aggressive economic stimulating measures.<\/p>\n<p>Gold prices tend to benefit in an environment of accommodating monetary policies since excessive lending or cash printing stoke inflationary pressure which in turn prompts investors to seek safety in inflation-hedge assets such as gold.<\/p>\n<p>Still, bullion investors will wait for the Labor Department\u2019s monthly non-farm payrolls data to gauge the state of health of the U.S. job market.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u2019s ongoing quantitative easing or QE3 is pegged to the improvement in the job market.<\/p>\n<p>Should non-farm payrolls report show signs of weakness in the labor market then the Fed will be reluctant to squeeze or halt its QE3.<\/p>\n<p>In a note to clients, Saxo Bank Vice President Ole Hansen said, \u201cGold is desperately trying to bounce, but it&#8217;s failing quite miserably.
