{"id":43937,"date":"2013-04-25T14:46:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T14:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-rise-sharply\/43935\/"},"modified":"2013-04-25T14:46:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T14:46:00","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-rise-sharply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-rise-sharply\/43937\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Rise Sharply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> rallied on Thursday, hitting 10-day high level thanks to persistent robust physical-side demand from Asia and weakness in the U.S. dollar. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also rallied on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-43937\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures for June delivery leaped 2.80% to $1,463.50 an ounce while spot gold jumped 2.54% to $1,467.11 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since gold prices crashed last week, falling to a two-year low level, the demand from Asia has been particularly strong with traders in Hong Kong and Singapore running out of stock while premiums on gold bars climbing to multi-month high compared to spot gold prices in London.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting over an unusually strong demand from Asia, Daniel Smith, an analyst at Standard Chartered Bank said, \u201cThere has been a massive surge in terms of physical interest in Asia \u2014 we had a record level of shipments to India last week, which was twice the level of the previous week,\u201d according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelays at the refineries in Europe are running between two to six weeks,\u201d added Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion also found support on Thursday after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that global central banks raised their bullion holdings. According to Reuters, The IMF said that Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkey increased their gold reserves in March with Turkey importing another 18.5 tons in first three weeks of the current month.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar traded broadly lower during the Asian and European trading hours on Thursday, boosting the demand for dollar-dominated commodities. The dollar came under pressure a day after when the Commerce Department\u2019s durable goods orders data showed more-than-feared drop in orders in March.
