{"id":44065,"date":"2013-04-30T14:35:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-30T14:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-futures-settle-higher-silver-futures-also-gain\/44059\/"},"modified":"2013-04-30T14:35:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-30T14:35:00","slug":"gold-futures-settle-higher-silver-futures-also-gain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-futures-settle-higher-silver-futures-also-gain\/44065\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Futures Settle Higher; Silver Futures Also Gain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures tacked higher on Tuesday but the rally faded as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of the key policy rate statements from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> and the European Central Banks, later this week. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures also gained on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-44065\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The physical side demand for gold also eased in Asia as one of the top gold buyers, China, is shut until Thursday due to May Day holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Gold futures for June delivery edged up $4.70, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,472.10 an ounce. For the month, gold futures tumbled about 8%. Spot gold was last down 0.23% to $1,472.35 an ounce. On Wednesday, the trading volume is likely to remain thin as most markets in Asia such as Thailand, Hong Kong and practically most of the Europe will remain closed on account of the Labor Day.<\/p>\n<p>However, in the U.S. all eyes will be focused on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>. The Fed, which began its Open Market Committee Meeting (FOMC) on Tuesday, is expected to announce its policy rate statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Market participants will be keen to know the Fed\u2019s views on latest round of quantitative easing or QE3. Earlier today, a CNBC poll showed that majority of Wall Street\u2019s economists and money managers expect that the Fed will continue with its monetary easing measures until the end of 2014, which will be gold supportive, in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>The ECB is also due to announce its policy rate statement on Thursday. Expectations are abound that the ECB might slash its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to record low level of 0.50%, prompted by spate of dismal economic data releases.
