{"id":44256,"date":"2013-05-08T08:23:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T08:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip\/44251\/"},"modified":"2013-05-08T08:23:00","modified_gmt":"2013-05-08T08:23:00","slug":"gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip\/44256\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Up, Silver Prices Slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> edged higher during Asian trading hours on Wednesday thanks to strong physical side demand from Asia, especially China; however, gains are likely to be capped as investors are disinclined towards investing in safe-haven bets at time when global equities are rallying. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a>, meanwhile, edged lower in early trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-44256\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for June delivery gained 0.23% to $1,452.10 an ounce while spot gold inched up 0.07% to $1.453.06 an ounce. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures slipped 0.09% to $23.785 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Tuesday gold futures tumbled 1.3% to settle at $1,448.80 an ounce at COMEX division of the New York Mercantile <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/stock-exchange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stock Exchange<\/a> as multi-year high equities enticed investors towards high risk-return equity markets. While <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/sp500\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> Index entered \u201cbull\u201d territory, having climbed about 20% since last November, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Dow Jones Today\">Dow Jones<\/a> Index breached and closed above 15,000 points millstone. Better-than-expected German industrial orders data and Nikkei 225 index\u2019s multi-year- high close boosted the sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>Physical metal however is benefitting from soaring demand in China. According to Reuters, China\u2019s gold import from Hong Kong rose to record high level in March and the demand could remain healthy in coming months which turn would support prices. Dealers in Asia are still struggling to fulfill the demand for gold bars, coins and nuggets.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Reuters, a Hong Kong based dealer said, \u201cThere&#8217;s still a shortage in physical metal, which is why premiums are at very high levels.
