{"id":44274,"date":"2013-05-08T14:39:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T14:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-rise-sharply-silver-prices-also-edge-higher\/44272\/"},"modified":"2013-05-08T14:39:00","modified_gmt":"2013-05-08T14:39:00","slug":"gold-prices-rise-sharply-silver-prices-also-edge-higher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-rise-sharply-silver-prices-also-edge-higher\/44274\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Rise Sharply; Silver Prices Also Edge Higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> climbed sharply on Wednesday as broadly weaker U.S. dollar boosted the demand for dollar-dominated commodities while improving global macroeconomic environment also burnished metal\u2019s inflation hedge appeal. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged higher on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-44274\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Moreover, strong physical side demand from China and rest of Asian markets is also supporting prices; but incessant liquidations from <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a>-backed ETF\u2019s including the world\u2019s largest, the SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) could cap gains.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. gold futures for June delivery gained $24.90, or 1.7%, to settle at $1,473.70 an ounce at the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Spot gold was last up 1.42% to $1,472.64 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar traded broadly lower on Wednesday. While two back-to-back unexpectedly strong German industrial orders data has nearly ruled out the possibility of further monetary easing from the European Central Bank (ECB), boosting the euro, the Aussie dollar also gained sharply after Chinese trade data showed that both exports and imports rose at much faster-than-expected pace in April.<\/p>\n<p>As most commodities, including gold are priced in U.S. dollars, any weakness in the U.S. unit pushes up the demand since traders dealing in other currencies find them cheaper to buy.<\/p>\n<p>German industrial orders climbed 1.2% in March (month-on month) against analysts\u2019 expectation of 0.2% drop. On Tuesday, a data showed industrial orders rose 2.2% in February while analysts were expecting a decline of 0.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Spate of strong economic data not only increased investors\u2019 risk appetite with <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/sp500\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Dow Jones Today\">Dow Jones<\/a> extending their fresh highs, crude oil futures also jumped more than 1%, bolstering yellow metal\u2019s inflation hedge appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, holdings of the SPDR Gold Trust continued to fall until Tuesday.
