{"id":44412,"date":"2013-05-14T08:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T08:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-euro-slips-against-dollar-2\/44408\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:10:59","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:10:59","slug":"forex-market-update-euro-slips-against-dollar-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-euro-slips-against-dollar-2\/44412\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Euro Slips against Dollar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>Despite an economic survey showing that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/euro-zone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">euro zone<\/a>\u2019s industrial output rose more than expected in April, the euro fell against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday as investors\u2019 sentiment in the currency bloc\u2019s largest economy, Germany showed fair amount of cautiousness even as the single currency remains vulnerable amid growing concerns that the European Central Bank (ECB) could slash its deposit rate to negative in order to boost lending.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-44412\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Zew Index, a gauge on economic sentiment edged up to 36.4 points in May from 36.3 in April while economists forecast was for a reading of 38.3.<\/p>\n<p>The euro which edged higher against the U.S. dollar during Asian trading hours pared gains after the release of German economic sentiment index.<\/p>\n<p>Although industrial output in the euro zone surprised market participants, the overall picture of the currency bloc remains gloomy with many economies such as Spain reeling under recession and unemployment at record high levels.
