{"id":44420,"date":"2013-05-14T14:21:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T14:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-tumble\/44418\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:10:49","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:10:49","slug":"gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-tumble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-edge-lower-silver-prices-tumble\/44420\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Edge Lower; Silver Prices Tumble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">Gold prices<\/a> were heading towards logging fourth straight session loss on Tuesday as broadly firmer U.S. dollar and rally in global equities, which was fueled by globally renowned hedge fund manager\u2019s remarks, dented demand for the precious metal. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also plunged on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-44420\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Moreover, constant liquidations from the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a>-backed ETFs, including the SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>) is also keeping investors and money managers reluctant to take any fresh bullish positions on bullion.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for June delivery while spot gold fell 0.56% to $1426.40 an ounce while spot gold edged down 0.24% to $1,426.68 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>While spate of unexpectedly strong U.S. economic indicators released in the recent past, including April\u2019s retail sales, boosted the U.S. dollar against all major traded currencies, a weaker-than -expected ZEW Index, which is a gauge on German economic sentiment, dented the euro on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The ICE dollar Index edged up on Tuesday and was not far away from its five week high, hit on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In a research note to clients, Karim Cherif, an analyst at Credit Suisse said, \u201cCurrency movements are clearly driving the market at the moment and then if you look at bond yields they are also moving higher, indicating that investors prefer to put their money in other assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, noted hedge fund manager, David Tepper\u2019s remarks that he was definitely bullish on stocks even at this juncture, further boosted investors\u2019 risk appetite on Tuesday.
