{"id":45102,"date":"2013-06-11T08:16:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-down-more-than-1\/45090\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:10:18","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:10:18","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-down-more-than-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-down-more-than-1\/45102\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Down More Than 1%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> fell sharply during Asian trading hours on Tuesday as investors remained disinclined towards investing in safe-haven bets after the Standard &amp; Poor (S&amp;P) raised its outlook on the U.S. sovereign credit to \u201cstable\u201d from negative, in the preceding session. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also fell sharply in trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45102\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Besides, simmering concerns over whether the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> will or will not squeeze its economic stimulating measures amid improving macroeconomic environment is also keeping the pressure on the metal.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for August delivery plunged 1.28% to $1,368.30 an ounce while spot gold fell 1.27% to $1,368.81 an ounce. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures were last down 1.69% to $21.56 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting over the S&amp;P\u2019s upgrade and its implication on gold prices, Brian Lan managing director of Singapore-based dealer GoldSilver Central Pte Ltd, said \u201cThe S&amp;P news bodes well for the stock market more than precious metals,\u201d according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore funds are going towards the stock markets,\u201d added Lan.<\/p>\n<p>Investors would now keep an eye on some more economic data releases later this week. Economic indicators such as retail sales (due on Thursday), consumer sentiment (due on Friday) would provide clearer picture of the U.S. economy.<\/p>\n<p>In his latest testimony to the U.S. Congress, The Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke had said that the decision to reduce the pace of the bond purchase program was possible in next few FOMCs, in case economic indicators showed significant improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the physical side demand in Asia is also signs of cooling off. Speaking to Reuters, one Singapore based dealer said that gold bars and coins were now easily available.
