{"id":45112,"date":"2013-06-11T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T13:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-on-course-to-end-lower-silver-prices-also-slip\/45106\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:10:16","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:10:16","slug":"gold-prices-on-course-to-end-lower-silver-prices-also-slip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-on-course-to-end-lower-silver-prices-also-slip\/45112\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices on Course to End Lower; Silver Prices Also Slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> edged lower on Tuesday as the metal\u2019s inflation-hedge appeal is waning quickly amid rising fears that the era of easy money will end soon. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also slipped in trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45112\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for August delivery were down 0.66% to $1,376.80 an ounce while spot gold lost 0.61% to $1,377.90 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>While investors are worried that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> could soon start tapering its multi-billion dollar bond purchase program in the backdrop of improving U.S. macroeconomic environment, the Bank of Japan, earlier today, refrained from offering any more economic stimulating measures.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Monday, the European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi said that the bank will not resort to stoking up the inflation rate in order to curb the euro zone crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Global central banks\u2019\u00a0 extremely accommodating monetary policies have been the key driving force behind gold bull runs in last few years. Year 2012 marked the 12th consecutive year when the metal logged yearly gains. Rampant currency printing raise inflation concerns which in turn pushes the demand for inflation-hedge assets such as gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe view is now that the Fed will taper quantitative easing,\u201d said David Govett, head of precious metal at Marex Spectron, according to Reuters,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that happens, it&#8217;s negative for gold.
