{"id":45651,"date":"2013-07-03T08:17:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-03T08:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreats\/45645\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:09:16","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:09:16","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreats\/45651\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Gain as Dollar Retreats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>Amid low volume trading, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold prices<\/a> ticked higher during Asian trading hours on Wednesday as weakness in the U.S. dollar, as result of remarks made from two top <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged higher in early trading on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45651\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for August delivery edged up 0.16% to $1,245.30 an ounce while spot gold gained 0.38% to $1,246.10 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The metal\u2019s safe haven appeal also received some support on Wednesday after China\u2019s official Purchasing Mangers\u2019 Index (PMI) showed that service sector activities fell to its lowest level in last nine months in June.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, no major gains are in sight with well-known commodity investor, Jim Rogers suggesting that the metal has not yet bottomed out even as constant liquidations from gold-backed ETFs will keep investors wary of gold.<\/p>\n<p>Attending an event in Singapore, Rogers said, \u201cI am not convinced this is the bottom,\u201d according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere that bottom will be I have no idea. Perhaps it will be $900-$1,000,\u201d added Rogers.<\/p>\n<p>If the metal do sinks further to this level then it will be almost 50% down from its all-time high of $1,920.30 an ounce, hit in September 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion\u2019s inflation hedge appeal received a severe blow in June after the Fed\u2019s Chairman Ben Bernanke finally laid out pullback strategy for $85 billion worth monthly bond purchase program.<\/p>\n<p>The metal has logged 12 successive years of bull runs until 2012 as extremely loose monetary policies from global central banks, especially the Fed, stoked inflationary concerns, prompting investors to take bullish positions on the yellow metal.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday however, two Fed officials pacified investors\u2019 nerves by saying that the winding down of the QE3 will not commence immediately.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures were climbed almost 1% to $19.50 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>In late trading, the iShares Silver Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SLV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: SLV<\/a>) was up 2.73%, and the ProShares Ultra Silver (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=AGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: AGQ<\/a>) was up 5.08%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"nrelate_popular_2\" class=\"nrelate nrelate_popular nrelate_default nr_1col nr_text\"><\/div>\n<p>\t<!--[if IE 6]>\n\t\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">jQuery('.nrelate_default').removeClass('nrelate_default');<\/script>\n\t<![endif]--><\/p>\n<p>\t<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n\t\/* <![CDATA[ *\/\n\t\tnRelate.domain = \"www2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news\";\n\t\tvar entity_decoded_nr_mp_url = jQuery('<span\/>').html(\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130708113507\/http:\/\/api.nrelate.com\/mpw_wp\/0.51.4\/?tag=nrelate_popular&domain=www2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww2.thestockmarketwatch.com%2Fstock-market-news%2Fgold-and-silver-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreats%2F45651&nr_div_number=2&maxageposts=7200&increment=1\").text();\n\t\tnRelate.getNrelatePosts(entity_decoded_nr_mp_url);\n\t\/* ]]&gt;
