{"id":45876,"date":"2013-07-12T08:26:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T08:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-retreat\/45876\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:09:09","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:09:09","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-retreat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-retreat\/45876\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Retreat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> fell during Asian trading hours on Friday as some profit booking following recent gains and technical weakness (failure to breach the key resistance of $1,300), paused the brief rally. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> also edged lower in early trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45862\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Still, the metal is on course to post best weekly performance in almost two years.<\/p>\n<p>The physical side demand for the metal also eased in Asia, said traders according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, U.S. gold futures for August delivery fell 0.86% to $1,268.90 an ounce while spot gold plunged 1.1% $1,270.58 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Gold tumbled about 24% in the second quarter of this year amid persistent fears that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> might start winding down its multi-billion dollar monthly asset purchases in the backdrop of improving U.S. macroeconomic environment. Later in the third week of June, the Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke also laid out the pull back strategy of the bond purchase program, citing that U.S. economy was witnessing an improvement.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Wednesday, while delivering a speech at the National Bureau of Economic Research, Bernanke surprised everyone by saying that the accommodating policy will continue for a foreseeable future as the labor market was not strong enough yet.
