{"id":45896,"date":"2013-07-15T08:16:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-futures-gain-but-silver-futures-flat\/45888\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T18:09:08","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T18:09:08","slug":"gold-futures-gain-but-silver-futures-flat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-futures-gain-but-silver-futures-flat\/45896\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Futures Gain, but Silver Futures Flat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures gained during Asian trading hours on Monday as investors continued to take positions on inflation-hedge bets following the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\">gold prices<\/a> easing on Monday. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures, meanwhile, were flat in early trading on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45896\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for August delivery gained 0.26% to $1,280.90 an ounce while spot gold was down 0.25% to $1,281.05 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Bernanke surprised global financial markets last week by saying that the period of accommodating monetary policy will be continued in the foreseeable future, citing that the U.S. economy wasn\u2019t strong enough to warrant immediate pullback of the quantitative easing.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier (in the third week of June), Bernanke had laid out a pullback strategy for the $85 billion worth, monthly bond purchase program.<\/p>\n<p>In the previous week, gold futures jumped 5.4%, a best weekly performance in almost 2 years, showed a data provided by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>An environment of easy-money, stokes inflationary concerns which in turn boosts the demand for physical assets such as gold as it does not give dividends or yields.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Reuters, one Hong Kong based traders said on Monday, \u201cPeople are still buying after Bernanke&#8217;s assurance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were expecting the tapering (in quantitative easing) to begin in September but now they think there is a possibility of it happening only next year,\u201d added the trader.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, holdings of the world\u2019s largest gold-backed exchange traded fund are continuously dwindling.
