{"id":45928,"date":"2013-07-16T07:51:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T07:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreat-silver-prices-flat\/45928\/"},"modified":"2013-07-16T07:51:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-16T07:51:00","slug":"gold-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreat-silver-prices-flat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-gain-as-dollar-retreat-silver-prices-flat\/45928\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Gain as Dollar Retreat; Silver Prices Flat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> edged higher during Asian trading hours on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar remained weak ahead of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> Chairman Ben Bernanke\u2019s testimony to the Congress on July 17 and 18. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices, meanwhile, were flat in early trading on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45924\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, U.S. gold futures for August delivery added 0.16% to $1,285.50 an ounce while spot gold gained 0.57% to $1,289.31 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, gold prices and the U.S. dollar tend to move in inverse direction as softer dollar makes dollar-priced commodities cheaper for dealers trading in other currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Bernanke\u2019s testimony could provide some clue over exactly when the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> might start winding down its assets purchases program. In the previous week, Bernanke surprised global financial markets by saying that the bank would keep on its accommodating monetary policy for a foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>Before Bernanke\u2019s remarks, speculation was rife that the bank could start tapering its $85 billion worth monthly bond purchase program from September.<\/p>\n<p>Some market analysts said that Bernanke\u2019s dovish comments were only meant to calm down investors nerves and reduce volatility in markets.
