All three benchmark indexes edged lower on Tuesday as market participants digested some mixed economic data and earnings report. Investors also remained on the sidelines ahead of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> Chairman Ben Bernanke\u2019s testimony.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-45942\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/indices\/dowjones\/today\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Dow Jones Today\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 0.21% lower at 15,451.85, the S&amp;P 500 ended the day 0.37% lower at 1,676.26, and the Nasdaq ended the day 0.25% lower at 3,598.50.<\/p>\n<p>Telecommunications sector was the worst performer in the S&amp;P 500 on Tuesday, ending the day 1.46% lower. Consumer Cyclical sector also fell sharply, ending the day 0.62% lower. Basic Materials sector was the best performer in the S&amp;P 500, ending the day 0.52% higher.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major movers on Tuesday were Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GS<\/a>), which ended the day 1.69% lower at $160.24, The Coca-Cola Company (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=KO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: KO<\/a>), which ended the day 1.90% lower at $40.23, and SHFL Entertainment Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SHFL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: SHFL<\/a>), which ended the day 21.98% higher at $22.81.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, a report released by the Labor Department showed that consumer prices rose 0.5% in June. Core consumer prices, meanwhile, rose 0.2%. A report from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> showed that industrial production rose 0.3% in June. According to the National Association of Homebuilders, confidence among U.S. homebuilders rose in July to the highest level since January 2006.<\/p>\n<p>European markets ended mostly lower on Tuesday, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.45% lower, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.71% lower.
