{"id":46120,"date":"2013-07-23T08:18:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-23T08:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-pare-gains-silver-prices-down-more-than-1\/46120\/"},"modified":"2013-07-23T08:18:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-23T08:18:00","slug":"gold-prices-pare-gains-silver-prices-down-more-than-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-pare-gains-silver-prices-down-more-than-1\/46120\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Pare Gains, Silver Prices Down More Than 1%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> pared initial gains to turn lower in Asian trading hours on Tuesday as the dollar strengthened\u00a0 however, the metal remained near its one-month high level , supported by string buying orders from mainland China. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> were also down in early trading on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46115\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for August delivery edged down 0.52% to $1,330.40 an ounce while spot gold fell 0.55% to $1,327.66 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Monday, the metal clocked more than 3% gains, aided by broadly weaker dollar and technical buying, which ensued after bullion breached the key resistance of $1,300 an ounce level.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion has now added almost $150 an ounce, having hit its three year low level of $1,180.71 an ounce on June 28, showed a data provided by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The demand for safe haven bets rose after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> Chairman Ben Bernanke, in his latest congressional speech, reaffirmed the bank\u2019s commitment towards pursuing an accommodating monetary policy. Bernanke said that the tapering of the multi-billion dollar bond purchase program was possible later this year but added it was (squeezing of economic stimulating measures) squarely depended on the economic outlook.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, a weaker-than-expected existing home sales data for June, accentuated the fact that the U.S. economy was not out of the woods, yet.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Reuters, a Hong Kong based trader said on Tuesday, \u201cPeople are more confident that the downside risk has subsided just a little bit. The message from the Fed was not too worrisome, as it was before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the demand for physical gold also improved in China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemand from China is quite healthy and has been a lot more reliable.
