{"id":46172,"date":"2013-07-25T08:16:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-25T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-down-ahead-of-options-expirations-silver-prices-also-edge-lower\/46159\/"},"modified":"2013-07-25T08:16:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-25T08:16:00","slug":"gold-prices-down-ahead-of-options-expirations-silver-prices-also-edge-lower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-down-ahead-of-options-expirations-silver-prices-also-edge-lower\/46172\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Down Ahead of Options Expirations; Silver Prices also Edge Lower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold prices<\/a> pared initial gains to turn lower in Asian trading hours on Thursday as wary investors remained in sidelines ahead of the U.S. job data. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices have also edged lower in early trading on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46172\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gold futures also remained volatile as traders positioned themselves to book profit around a key price target before the option expirations.<\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery fell 0.73% to $1,309.90 an ounce while spot gold was last down 0.73% to $1,311.11 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Wednesday gold prices fell more than 1% after two back to back solid U.S. economic data fanned speculation that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> might soon start winding down its $85 billion worth monthly bond purchase program (Quantitative easing).<\/p>\n<p>Both July\u2019s manufacturing index and June\u2019s new home sales\u00a0 data showed better-than-expected readings.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u2019s extremely accommodating monetary policy since the credit crises of 2008\/09 has been the key factor behind gold bull runs. As ultra-loose monetary policy stokes inflation concerns, investors took safety in inflation-hedge bets such as gold. In September 2011, gold touched its all-time high of $1,920 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the entire spotlight now will shift to the job data (weekly jobless claims). The Fed has explicitly tied its economic stimulating measures to an improvement in the U.S. job market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe housing numbers yesterday really took the wind out of gold&#8217;s rally.
