{"id":46321,"date":"2013-07-31T11:39:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-31T11:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-after-gdp-and-job-data\/46319\/"},"modified":"2013-07-31T11:39:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-31T11:39:00","slug":"forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-after-gdp-and-job-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-gains-after-gdp-and-job-data\/46321\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Dollar Index Gains After GDP, and Job Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar index gained sharply on Wednesday following the release of stronger-than-expected job and GDP data releases, fanning speculation that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> could soon start tapering its bond purchase program.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46321\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The dollar index, a measure on dollar\u2019s performance against a basket of six major traded currencies, was last up 0.34% to 82.12.<\/p>\n<p>The Commerce Department said that the U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 1.7% in the second quarter, easily beating economists\u2019 consensus forecast for 1% growth, according to a poll conducted by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The Automatic Data Processing Inc\u2019s (ADP) private sector job report showed that 200,000 jobs were added in July compared to economists\u2019 forecast of 180,000 new job additions.<\/p>\n<p>Market participants will now keep an eye on the Fed\u2019s policy rate statement later today. The Fed\u2019s two-day open market committee meeting will end at 2:00 p.m. EST.
