The <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/indices\/sp500\/today\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> closed at record high levels.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46392\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 0.19% higher at 15,658.36, the S&amp;P 500 ended the day 0.16% higher at 1,709.67, and the Nasdaq ended the day 0.38% higher at 3,689.59. For the week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/indices\/dowjones\/today\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Dow Jones Today\">Dow Jones<\/a> rose 0.64%, the S&amp;P 500 rose 1.07%, and the Nasdaq rose 2.12%.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer Cyclical sector was the best performer in the S&amp;P on Friday. The sector ended the day 1.10% higher. Technology sector ended the day 0.40% higher. Energy sector was the worst performer in the S&amp;P 500, ending the day 0.32% lower.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major movers in trading on Friday were Weight Watchers International Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=WTW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: WTW<\/a>), which ended the day 19.22% lower at $37.99, LinkedIn Corp. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=LNKD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: LNKD<\/a>), which ended the day 10.60% higher at $235.58, and Brinker International Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=EAT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: EAT<\/a>), which ended the day 6.81% higher at $43.74.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, a report released by the Labor Department showed that the U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate dropped to 7.40%.<\/p>\n<p>European markets ended on a mixed note on Friday, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.51% lower, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.07% higher.
