{"id":46644,"date":"2013-08-15T08:54:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T08:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-edges-down-more-economic-data-eyed\/46639\/"},"modified":"2013-08-15T08:54:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-15T08:54:00","slug":"forex-market-update-dollar-index-edges-down-more-economic-data-eyed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-edges-down-more-economic-data-eyed\/46644\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Dollar Index Edges Down, More Economic Data Eyed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar traded broadly lower during Asian trading hours on Thursday as ambiguity over when and at what pace the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> will start winding down its multi-billion asset purchase program prompted investors\u00a0 to cut positions on the U.S. unit.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46644\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The dollar came under pressure on Wednesday after the Labor Department\u2019s July\u2019s Producer Price Index showed that the \u201ccore\u201d wholesale inflation rose at a lower-than-expected rate, raising expectations that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fed<\/a> might wait for little longer before its starts to taper its asset purchases.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar Index, a gauge on greenback\u2019s performance against a basket of six major traded currencies, fell 0.20% to 81.54, at last check. The Index fell as low as 81.43 on Thursday after closing at 81.71 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The euro was last up 0.29% against the dollar to trade at $1.3294 while the sterling gained 0.57% to $1.5590.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, two top Fed officials, Atlanta Fed President, Dennis Lockhart and St Louis Fed President, James Bullard did not provide any clear message as to when the bank might start scaling back the pace of economic stimulating measures.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, investors will look forward to a series of economic data releases on Thursday. In addition of the labor market data (weekly jobless applications) and home builders\u2019 sentiment index, market participants will keep a close eye on July\u2019s Consumer Price Index (CPI).
