{"id":46697,"date":"2013-08-19T07:57:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T07:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip-3\/46692\/"},"modified":"2013-08-19T07:57:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T07:57:00","slug":"gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-prices-up-silver-prices-slip-3\/46697\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Prices Up, Silver Prices Slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures extended gains during Asian trading hours on Monday amid rising speculation that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\">Silver prices<\/a> edged lower in early trading on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46697\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery gained 0.31% to $1,375.20 an ounce while spot gold slipped 0.14% to $1,373.93 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> futures edged down 0.29% to $23.30 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Bullion clocked its best weekly performance since last one month on Friday as series of weaker-than-expected U.S. economic data releases showed that the economic momentum was slowing.<\/p>\n<p>Excluding the job market data (weekly jobless claims), all other economic indicators such as the producer price index, manufacturing activities both the in the mid-Atlantic region and New York State as well as consumer sentiment were very tepid.<\/p>\n<p>Top Fed Officials such as Atlanta\u2019s Fed President Dennis Lockhart and St. Louis Fed President James Bullard also stopped short of offering any definitive outlook over the bond purchase program, (QE3\u2019s pullback).<\/p>\n<p>While Lockhart said that the economic indicators in the recent past were very uneven, Bullard showed concerns over lack of inflationary pressure.<\/p>\n<p>A data provided by Reuters showed that bullion prices have headed upwards for eight out of last nine sessions. Weakness in the U.S. dollar, improvement in the physical side demand from China, short coverings- all have supported the metal, pushing prices up 8% in last one week.<\/p>\n<p>The SPDR Gold Trust (ETF) (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=GLD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: GLD<\/a>), which has witnessed outflows since Nov. 2012, reported first weekly increase last week.
