{"id":46812,"date":"2013-08-23T08:05:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T08:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-edge-higher-6\/46806\/"},"modified":"2013-08-23T08:05:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T08:05:00","slug":"gold-and-silver-prices-edge-higher-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/gold-and-silver-prices-edge-higher-6\/46812\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold and Silver Prices Edge Higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">Gold<\/a> futures edged higher during Asian trading hours on Friday even as talks over possible winding down of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/federal-reserve-system-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u2019s $85 billion worth monthly asset purchases program from September continued to weigh on the sentiment. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/silver\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"silver price today\">Silver<\/a> prices also edged higher in early trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46812\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, gold futures for December delivery gained 0.29% to 1,374.80 an ounce while spot gold inched down 0.07% to $1,374.21 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee Meeting (FOMC) held on July 30-31, (released on Wednesday), revealed that officials were undecided over when exactly the bank should start the tapering of the quantitative easing.<\/p>\n<p>However, the minutes provided enough clues that the Fed could start the tapering process in any of this year\u2019s remaining three FOMCs.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation is rife that the pullback could start from September, which will weigh on gold prices.<\/p>\n<p>Higher <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/bonds\/today.aspx\">interest rates<\/a> will drive away investors from the bullion market as the metal is a non-interest bearing asset. The Fed will hold its next FOMC on September 17-18.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will now keep a close eye on U.S. economic indicators as any significant improvement would press the Fed to scale down its economic stimulating measures from September.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Thursday the job data (weekly jobless claims) release showed that the labor market was improving gradually despite a small rise in claims. The weekly jobless claims remained near six-year low level, last week.
