{"id":46816,"date":"2013-08-23T09:01:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T09:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-inches-up\/46813\/"},"modified":"2013-08-23T09:01:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T09:01:00","slug":"forex-market-update-dollar-index-inches-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-dollar-index-inches-up\/46816\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Dollar Index Inches Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar traded higher against most of the major currencies on Friday as recent spike in yields of benchmark 10-year treasury boosted the demand for dollar; nevertheless, it eased against the euro after a top official from the European Central Bank (ECB) ruled out any possible interest-rate cuts in the backdrop of improving macroeconomic environment in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/euro-zone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">euro zone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46816\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, the Dollar Index, a measure on U.S. unit\u2019s performance vis-\u00e0-vis a basket of rival currencies, inched up 0.07% to 81.54.<\/p>\n<p>The WSJ$ Index, which has slightly broader indexing criteria, rose 0.15% to 74.04.<\/p>\n<p>Against the euro, the dollar was last up 0.03% to trade at $1.3353<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today, a top policymaker from the ECB, Ewald Nowotny said that he did not see much reason for the bank to further slash the benchmark rate.<\/p>\n<p>The remark comes a day after when an economic survey showed that manufacturing activities expanded at better-than-expected rate in the euro zone in August.
