{"id":46907,"date":"2013-08-28T09:13:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-28T09:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-syria-concerns-pushes-dollar-index-up\/46900\/"},"modified":"2013-08-28T09:13:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-28T09:13:00","slug":"forex-market-update-syria-concerns-pushes-dollar-index-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-syria-concerns-pushes-dollar-index-up\/46907\/","title":{"rendered":"Forex Market Update: Syria Concerns Pushes Dollar Index Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1408583772585547\";\n\/* SMW - News Links *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3490797620\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 15;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The dollar index rose sharply on Wednesday as investors continued to flee equity markets and sought safety in the U.S. dollar as U.S. gears up for a possible missile strikes against Syria.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46907\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At last check, the Dollar Index, a measure on greenback\u2019s performance against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.27% to 81.39.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/metal\/gold-price.aspx\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"gold price today\">gold<\/a> futures continued to head northwards and Brent Crude Oil prices hit a six-month high at $115 a barrel as jittery investors fear possible escalation in geopolitical tensions in the middle-east, should U.S. military starts its military action.<\/p>\n<p>Sources familiar with the latest developments said to NBC News that the U.S. could launch missile strikes against Syria as early as Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar also bounced back from its two-week trough against the Japanese <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowfinance.com\/currency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currency<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The yen came under pressure on Wednesday after Bank of Japan\u2019s (BOJ) Deputy Governor; Kikuo Iwata said that the central bank will continue to keep its monetary policy accommodative until inflation stabilizes at 2%.<\/p>\n<p>Against the yen the dollar was last up 0.49% to trade at 97.51 yen.<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss Franc also edged lower against the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Both Swiss Franc and yen are considered as highly liquid and safe currencies in the times of macroeconomic uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe yen and Swiss franc have been supported on safe-haven demand given the developments in Syria, but I think we are now increasingly going to see the dollar taking on the dominant roleamong the safe-haven currencies and gaining broadly, even against the yen and the Swiss franc,\u201d said Ian Stannard, head of European FX strategy at Morgan Stanley, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nr_popular_placeholder\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/www2.thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock-market-news\/forex-market-update-syria-concerns-pushes-dollar-index-up\/46907\" data-title=\"Forex Market Update: Syria Concerns Pushes Dollar Index Up\"><\/div>\n<p><script id=\"mNCC\" language=\"javascript\">  medianet_width='600';
