However, geopolitical worries kept the gains in check.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-46917\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/dowjones\/today.aspx\">Dow Jones<\/a> ended the day 0.33% higher at 14,824.51, the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/sp500\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"snp500 today\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> ended the day 0.27% higher at 1,634.98, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/markets\/nasdaq\/today.aspx\">Nasdaq<\/a> ended the day 0.41% higher at 3,593.35.<\/p>\n<p>The gains in the S&amp;P 500 were led by the Telecom sector, which ended the day 1.55% higher. Energy sector also rose sharply, ending the day 1.27% higher. Utilities also edged higher, ending the day 0.44% higher. Financials ended the day 0.10% higher. Consumer Non-Cyclical sector was the worst performer in the S&amp;P 500, ending the day 0.58% lower.<\/p>\n<p>Among the major movers on Wednesday included Zale Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=ZLC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: ZLC<\/a>), which ended the day 29.80% higher at $11.63, Express Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=EXPR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: EXPR<\/a>), which ended the day 6.57% higher at $21.10, The Procter &amp; Gamble Company (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=PG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: PG<\/a>), which ended the day 1.44% lower at $76.85, Exxon Mobil Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=XOM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: XOM<\/a>), which ended the day 2.33% higher at $88.84, and Chevron Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=CVX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: CVX<\/a>), which ended the day 2.53% higher at $121.81.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, a report released by the National Association of Realtors showed that pending home sales fell 1.3% in July.<\/p>\n<p>European markets ended mostly lower on Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.17% lower, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.21% lower.
