The PMI Index is expected at 53.5 from 52.3 in July.<\/p>\n<p>Later at 9: 55 a.m. EST, the University of Michigan \/Thomson Reuters\u2019 consumer sentiment index is due with economists forecasting a final reading of 80.5 up from 80.<\/p>\n<p>In some corporate news, activist investor, Carl Icahn disclosed late on Thursday that he has increased his stake in Nuance Communications Inc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=NUAN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: NUAN<\/a>) to 16.9%, citing that the stock is undervalued.<\/p>\n<p>Apache Corp (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=APA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE: APA<\/a>) has sold its 33% stake in Egyptian oil and gas business to China\u2019s Sinopec Group in deal estimated at $3.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Splunk Inc (<a href=\"https:\/\/thestockmarketwatch.com\/stock.aspx?stock=SPLK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASDAQ: SPLK<\/a>) will be under spotlight. The Company late on Thursday said that fiscal second quarter loss widened due to higher expenses linked to stock based compensation. However, both core earnings and revenue beat Wall Street\u2019s expectation.
